How to Create a BOM in ERP

In short

Open Design → BOM, pick the project and equipment, click Create BOM, add items (or Copy Standard BOM / Import Excel) and click Submit for Approval. Design approves it at Design → Approvals; Generate PR turns it into a purchase requisition.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Open the BOM Builder

Go to Design → BOM. Choose the project and then the equipment the BOM is for.

  2. 2

    Create the BOM

If the equipment has no BOM yet, click Create BOM and give it a BOM Name and Description.

  3. 3

    Add items

Click Add Item for each component, or use Copy Standard BOM (when the equipment has one) or Import Excel. Items can only be added while the BOM is a draft.

  4. 4

    Submit for approval

With at least one item on it, click Submit for Approval. The BOM becomes Pending Approval.

  5. 5

    Approve

In Design → Approvals the approver clicks Approve, or Reject with a reason. An approved BOM updates the project's progress.

  6. 6

    Raise the purchase requisition

Click Generate PR to create a draft purchase requisition from the BOM's items.

Good to know

  • Only a draft BOM can be deleted, except by an admin. A BOM imported from Excel creates any items it cannot find.

Common questions

Can I edit a BOM after submitting it for approval?

No. Items can be added, copied or imported only while the BOM is a draft. An approver who rejects it must give a reason, so the designer knows what to change.

What does Copy Standard BOM do?

If the equipment has a standard BOM, it copies those items into this project's BOM so you only adjust what differs, instead of building it from scratch.

Does Generate PR need the BOM to be approved?

No. Generate PR creates a draft purchase requisition from the BOM's items at any time; the requisition then goes through its own approval before anything is bought.
