Step by step

  1. 1

    Create leave types

Go to HR → Leave Types → Add Leave Type. Enter Name (e.g. Casual Leave), Code (e.g. CL) and Default Days per Year (required), Max Carry Forward Days, and switch Allow Carry Forward, Paid Leave and Active as needed. Click Create Leave Type.

  2. 2

    New leave application

Go to HR → Leaves (Leave Applications) and click New Leave.

  3. 3

    Fill the request

Choose the Employee and Leave Type (only active ones are listed), set From Date and To Date, check Number of Days (worked out from the dates, at least 0.5) and add a Reason. Click Submit Leave — it is saved as Pending.

  4. 4

    Approve or reject

Open the application, click Edit, set Status to Approved, Rejected or Cancelled and click Update Leave.

  5. 5

    Record it in attendance

Approving a leave does not mark attendance. Mark those dates as Leave in HR → Attendance so payroll pays them.

Good to know

  • The Leave Applications page counts Total Leaves, Pending, Approved and Rejected, so pending requests are easy to spot.

Common questions

Does approving leave update attendance?

No. Approval changes the application's status only. Mark the days as Leave in HR → Attendance so the payroll run counts them as paid.

Can I enter half a day of leave?

Yes. Number of Days accepts 0.5 and up; it is worked out from the dates, and you can correct it for a half day.

Why is a leave type missing from the form?

Only active leave types are listed. Open the leave type, switch Active on and save it.
