Steps to pay ESIC online
1. Log in to the ESIC employer portal with the employer code. 2. Open the monthly contribution and enter, or upload in the portal's Excel format, each employee's insurance (IP) number, days worked and gross wages. 3. Submit; the portal works out the contribution. 4. Generate the challan. 5. Pay it online through net banking. 6. Save the challan and payment receipt with that month's payroll.
Rates, limit and due date
Employees earning up to ₹21,000 gross a month (₹25,000 for persons with disability) are covered. The employee pays 0.75% and the employer 3.25% of gross wages; each is rounded up to the next rupee. Contributions are due by the 15th of the following month.
ESI runs in two contribution periods, April–September and October–March. An employee covered at the start of a period stays covered to its end even if a raise takes wages above ₹21,000, so check the period, not only this month's gross.
Getting the figures right
In CRE8Rx ERP the employee record holds the ESIC number and payroll deducts ESIC from the salary structure each month, so the totals you file come from the same payroll run as the pay slips. Filing and payment are done on the ESIC portal.
Example
Gross wages of ₹18,500: employee ESI 0.75% = ₹138.75, rounded up to ₹139; employer ESI 3.25% = ₹601.25, rounded up to ₹602. The challan for this employee is ₹741, payable by the 15th of next month.
